Le présent ouvrage est le fruit de quatre années d'enquête sur Second Life, dispositif qui propose de vivre une « seconde vie » dans un univers virtuel développé par les utilisateurs. Il plonge dans les usages de cette plateforme pour comprendre l'expérience de ceux qui disent y vivre une relation amoureuse. Cette approche met en lumière la diversité et l'ambiguïté des intimités contemporaines. Elle révèle comment l'individu amoureux est tiraillé entre un modèle romantique et des réflexions personnelles qui remettent en question plusieurs aspects de ce modèle. Cette intimité, bien qu'elle se « joue » en ligne, est inextricablement liée à la vie hors-ligne des partenaires. Si pour certains elle promet des changements biographiques, elle permet à d'autres d'éviter de telles transformations. S'appuyant sur la sociologie du couple et des émotions et sur la sociologie des techniques et de ses usages, cette recherche considère Second Life à la fois comme révélateur et comme opérateur des intimités contemporaines. Elle aborde un sujet au coeur de l'actualité et analyse des pratiques relationnelles encore peu étudiées. |

| Summary, etc. | The Internet and online social world have become the intermediaries of contemporary intimacy. Second Life offers exactly that, a 'second life', but in the virtual universe. This book delves into the use of this platform to understand the experiences of those who participate in a relationship there. How do communicational tools contribute to the organisation of intimate exchanges? What do these relationships reveal about the experiences of modern romantic liaisons? Drawing on the sociology of couples together with emotions and techniques, this research considers Second Life as both the developer and operator of contemporary intimacy. It addresses a subject at the centre of current affairs with an analysis of relational practises that remains little studied at present. |
